CLASSROOM & SPECIAL ED TEACHERS/COORDINATORS WORKSHOP - MONDAY 19 FEBRUARY

BUILDING A LEARNING BRAIN
Neuroscience and the Student Brain

PRESENTED BY DR DONNA NITSCHKE, EDUCATIONAL NEUROSCIENTIST IN THE CLASSROOM, DECD

This workshop is suitable for classroom teachers and special education coordinators who are working in upper primary, middle, and secondary schools across the three education sectors in South Australia. This includes schools in mainstream, special units, special classes, and special schools.

It is an ideal opportunity for a team from the school to attend in order to share information and apply strategies more effectively in the school environment.

This workshop explores how to enrich learning experiences for all children including those who experience difficulties with working memory, executive function, behaviour and organisational skills, or have a diagnosed disability such as Intellectual Disability or Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Dr. Donna Nitschke has a long established career in the field of education. This has included teaching at all levels – primary and secondary schools, TAFE and university. She has also worked for several specialist educational organisations, and was the senior project officer for the Ministerial Advisory Committee; Students with Disabilities. Donna’s PhD explored cognitive neuroscience and behavioural psychology to help all students improve their personal learning skills.

Donna currently implements her program as Coordinator, Neuroscience in the Classroom, across a group of 4 Adelaide schools.
